چکیده

Rats are the most frequently used animals in composite tissue allotransplantation (CTA) studies and most craniofacial composite tissue transplantation models are described in rats. During the last 10 years, a total of 8 different craniofacial composite tissue allotransplantation (CCTA) models have designed and developed in rats. These models include full face/scalp transplants, hemiface transplants, composite hemiface/calvarium transplants, rat maxilla allotransplants, composite osteomusculocutaneous hemiface/mandible/tongue flap transplants, composite midface allotransplants, total osteocutaneous hemifacial allotransplantation model and composite face and eyeball allotransplant model with optic nerve. All these models provide a basic and scientific foundation for future success in CTA in the clinical setting. This review presents different experimental models of CCTA in rats which are relevant to observed in clinical scenario cases of severe facial deformities.

Immunobiology of face transplantation.

Fourteen face transplants have been performed worldwide since the procedure was successfully introduced in 2005. Vascularized composite tissue allotransplantation may now be considered a viable option for the repair of complex craniofacial defects, for which the results of autologus reconstruction remain suboptimal. However, the benefits must be balanced against the risks inherent in major surg...

Mouse Models of Experimental Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation

The clinical practice of vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) has been limited by the potential side effects of chronic immunosuppression. Studies using rodent models have been useful for dissecting mechanisms underlying immunological events induced by VCA and for developing protocols such as mixed chimerism for tolerance induction. Mouse models of VCA have great advantages over rat...

Abstract 44: Tolerance Induction with Post Transplantation High-Dose Cyclophosphamide relies on Recipient-derived Immune Regulation and Donor Bone Marrow in a Murine Model of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation

PURPOSE: Developing novel treatment concepts to minimize/avoid immunosuppression by induction of immune tolerance represents the prime task in the field of transplantation. In the clinic to date, this was achieved in highly selected patients in clinical trials of kidney transplantation combined with concomitant stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. Vascularized composite allotransplantation...

Principles of face transplant revision: beyond primary repair.

BACKGROUND Over the past decade, facial vascularized composite allotransplantation has earned its place at the top of the reconstructive ladder. However, as in free tissue transfer, postoperative revisions are necessary to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic results. Although revising a facial vascularized composite allotransplantation may potentially risk the integrity of the graft, the a...

Shock Wave Treatment in Composite Tissue Allotransplantation

INTRODUCTION Composite tissue allotransplantation is a newly emerged field of transplantation. Shock wave technology has already been used in the treatment of urologic and orthopedic disorders. Recent studies demonstrated a suppression of the early proinflammatory immune response. METHODS 50 allogeneic hindlimb transplantations were performed on rats in 5 different groups. Group A (n = 10), (...
